Morning Glory Campaign
Morning Glory Campaign Summer 2010 - Finland
A national campaign called “Morning Glory” took place in Finland from April to July 2010. Close to 2000 small ’morning glory’ plants were planted. For months these little, slender but surprisingly persistent plants were tended first at their home “greenhouses” and later on also by generous volunteers around the country dedicated for the selling of these flowers.
Morning Glories were sold at most of the bigger towns in Finland -in the capital city Helsinki and cities of Vantaa and Espoo around it, in Tampere, Oulainen, Oulu and Rovaniemi. They were on sale at a variety of events, like the Forest Day at the end of the May in Rovaniemi, the Spring Fair in early May in Oulainen, the summer fair in July in Oulainen and the Kauhajoki Music festivals. The market places of Oulainen and Tampere sod them and - most importantly - many enthusiastic and endlessly helpful volunteers sold them at their workplaces and schools, to their neighbours, friends and relatives, even to strangers who all generously bought these symbolic plants and helped us to pursue our goal of 8 500 €. According to the buyers of these flowers, some of the plants didn’t survive to blossom but others grew to two meters high and were verdant and filled with flowers.
By the end of the campaign the goal was achieved and even exceeded! 8 652,86 € was collected for research. We want to express most sincerely our gratitude to all those who participated and helped with our first campaign here in Europe, and to everyone who kindly bought a flower, but especially to those who made this happen by growing, caring and selling the flowers.
The funds will be used for the research into lymphangiomatosis and Gorham’s disease. We will take decisions on the specific research project and research group for these funds together with the LGD Alliance in order to support our common aim. We will make sure we seek the most effective use of funds to achieve results for the benefit of patients as fast as possible. More information on that soon!
